Question: I am looking for a source of information that not only tells me the basics of diagnosing fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), but also the differential diagnosis I need to consider.
Answer: To address this important question, we present here the fourth edition of our Guide, which for the first time also incorporates the guide for the differential diagnosis of FASD. According to recent studies, the prevalence of FASD may be as high as 5% of all births in some areas (May et al, JAMA. 2018 ;319:474-482). Still, many clinicians and other health professionals are not familiar with the diagnostic process, despite FASD being the most prevalent birth defect and cause of developmental delay.
